I think one of the top stories of 2007 is the Tongue River Lady Eagles winning their 3rd straight 2A basketball state title. I think that its an amazing accomplishment. Riverside winning their 1st football title is awesome as well. There were a lot of great stories the past year. Thanks to Wyopreps for getting the stories out to everyone across the state.

John

With a great deal of sadness I have to say that in my opinion one of the biggest stories of the year just happened here in Casper with the passing of a man who was one of the most dedicated persons to the development of sports and youth in Wyoming, Harry Geldien.

Harry's tireless work and contributions are way to enormous to list here but there were two very good articles last week in the Casper Star Tribune about Harry and his life from the time he came to Wyoming to play football at the University until his passing. It would be well worth the time and effort for your readers to obtain these articles and see what this great man did over his career.

I'm proud to say that Harry (Coach) was my high school football coach, teacher, and more than than anything a friend and I truly enjoyed working with and for him over the many years of our friendship.

My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mary and his family. He will be greatly missed.

I'm not going to lie... the Jackson football championship was shocking.
Very, very shocking....

But I think the Star Valley Braves state basketball championship over Mountian View and their basketball 3 point God, Kyle Bullinger, is a Cinderella Story. Everyone was worried about them because even 6'3" Mark Burton couldn't gaurd Bullinger, his 3 pointers flew and sunk every single time.
But during the state game the Braves put on a zone defense and had the quick, but 5'7" Jordan Hyde on Bullinger and that played into the win.
The seven seniors who played on that Star Valley team had tons of heart and we miss them.

Wyoming Indian Football season, I thought is a good story. Their OT game with Shoshoni was cool too.

Without question, the story of the year is the Cheyenne Central Mens Golf Team winning their fourth straight State Championship. It's never been done before in Wyoming!

I think the Hulett Lady Red Devils Volleyball team bringing home the first ever state chamionship to their school is awsome. The seniors on that team that have been playing together since grade school were amazing in competition and their bench ran really deep.

Clearly this is a biased vote on my part. But having a school that had NEVER had a State Championship winner in football, to finally climb that mountain is THE story of the year.

Riverside's history goes back a long ways, extending much deeper than the name Riverside itself is one part. Another part is having this team come back from an undefeated regular season, a season that ended in 2006 in a loss to Southeast in the title game; then follow that season by WINNING the whole thing by beating a team it had lost to during the regular season in 2007.

Basin/Riverside has had many GREAT teams in the past that didn't get it done. (One in 1983-84 that didn't even get a chance because of a coin-flip)

To see my alma-mater win the school's first ever State Championship in person, in the fashion that they did it with that late drive.....priceless..and a memory to last a lifetime!!

No Disrespect to the other Schools that had great stories this year...Tongue River, Buffalo, Star Valley, Hulett...etc, etc. Like I stated at the beginning...this was clearly a biased vote!!

First of all let me say thanks for ALL of you're opinions! Each of the stories mentioned are tremendous stories and I hope you have enjoyed WyoPreps coverage of them.

I probably shouldn't add my two cents because I write on this web site, but I think one of the top stories that deserves alot of attention is Lander swimming winning 11 championships in a row. To win 11 in a row at ANYTHING is beyond impressive!

Thanks again, and keep the opinions coming!
