The 2008 rodeo season got underway Saturday in Gillette.

Highlighting the event was a three-way tie for first place in bareback riding between Cowley Vezain, Jacob Griffis of Lovell, and J.L. Garman of Buffalo. Dalton Hall of Moorcroft took home a title in tie down roping, while Gillette's Brittany Bell won in the ribbon roping cateogory.

Brayden Huxtable of Douglas won a championship in steer wresting. Megan Belus of Buffalo and Devin Nichols of Riverton tied for first in goat tying. Shyanne Lucas from Jackson was the winner in pole bending, and Maggie Habberman from Cheyenne won in Barrel racing. Katie Curtis from Cody was first in breakaway roping.

Team roping championships in the first go-round went to Clay Johnson of Gillette and Dex Dotson of Pavilion. The Second go-ruond went to Tyson Holden of Gillette and Jake Mingis of Jackson. Finally, the team roping average first place winners were James Graves and Ray Lay both of Wheatland.
