Former Wyoming prep bull rider Kanin Asay underwent emergency surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland to remove a ruptured spleen and re-attach part of his right ear. Asay suffered the injury during a rodeo in St. Paul, Oregon.
Asay was hooked twice and then stepped on. The 22 year old told prorodeo.com “To be honest, I don’t remember a lot, I remember watching the guy who rode before me, then I don’t remember anything until a day-and-a-half later in the hospital. But it all happens for a reason. I’m going to have some time off. But I thank the good Lord that I’m still here.”
Kanin was born in Worland and competed for Sheridan Community Colleges. He was a National High Schools bull riding champion in 2004. In 2005 Asay won the first round at the Farm-City Pro Rodeo in Herminston, Oregon, and the first round at the Dodge City, Kansas Rodeo.
Asay also finished second in the Wrangler Tour in Greely, Colorado and won the Eagle, Colorado County Fair and Rodeo.
