The state soccer tournament in Laramie kicked off Thursday morning and continues thru Saturday.

Day one of class 4A state soccer from Laramie is in the books. The story of the day was shutouts as there were five out of eight games with one team shutting out the other.

Three of the four games for the 4A boys bracket were shutouts. Kelly Walsh blanked gillette 2-0 and Cheyenne East held Natrona scoress 3-0 in the first round of the day. Laramie beat Green River 2-0 in the second round. Rock Springs notched a goal to avoid the shutout, but still got blasted by Cheyenne Central 7-1.

That sets up what should be two great semi-final games tomorrow with Kelly Walsh playing Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central versus Laramie. Both of those games are Fridy at 4:30 with the winners advancing to play for a state championship. Gillette plays Natrona and Rock Springs goes against Green River in a county rivalry for the consolation games at 2:00PM.

The 4A girls got started bright and early at 9:00AM Thursday morning with what many consider to be an upset as Cheyenne East defeated Kelly Walsh 2-1. Cheyenne Central took down Star Valley 7-0 on the other side of the bracket. That puts both Cheyenne schools against each other in a semi-final game at 11:30AM Friday.

The bottom half of the girls bracket had Natrona edge Gillette 2-1 and Laramie blast Rock Springs 6-0. Laramie and Rock Springs' Lady Tigers play in a semi-final game at 11:30AM as well.
