The Jackson girls and Cody boys both won state championships in state soccer this weekend at the University of Wyoming.
Jackson beat Worland 5-1 in the girls title game. Worland got on the board first in the 4th minute thanks to Venessa Frandson. Jackson would get on the board in the 30th minute from a Nicole Sutton penalty kick. Both teams were tied at 1's at halftime, but the second half would be all Jackson. Kelsey Bancrost scored in the 54th minute, which would prove to be the game winner. Abbey Armajo put one in at the 63rd minute, Nicole Sutton added another in the 71st off another PK, and Stephanie Schulz added one more in the 73rd. Worland takes second at state.
It took a shootout, but Cody defeated Buffalo 2-1 for a championship. Cody got on the board first in the 21st minute thanks to a Gavin Lafollette goal. Buffalo's Tyler Gibbs added the equalizer in the 62nd minute and both teams went to overtime at 1-1. After no score on the OT period they would go to a shootout.
Both teams made their first five shootout goals, however Cody keeper Josh Ryan knocked away the sixth attempt and Cody Freshman Morgan Heimer put in the game winner.
