The Laramie boys and girls completed the sweep for class 4A state soccer this weekend at UW.
The ladies played first and blanked Cheyenne East 2-0 to win their first ever state championship. The Lady Plainsmen opened up scoring from Kelsey Gapter in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. McKenzie Meade added another in the 43rd minute for her 18th goal of the season. Laramie only was beaten once in the entire season and out-scored opponents by a combined 59-11.
The Plainsmen late into the ballgame to edge the Kelly Walsh Trojans 1-0. Keith Kyhl scored that lone goal in the 69th minute off a header from a corner kick by Jimi Gomez. Gomez was credited with the assist. Andrew Esslinger had his 11th shutout in the net for Laramie. This is Laramie's second ever state championship, they out-scored opponents 32-13 on the season and 4-0 in the state tournament.
